What is dominionism?

Dominionism is the belief that “the kingdom of God must be established by peoples’ hard work and commitment, not by Christ who returns.”1 Adherents typically believe in postmillennialism. One example of a group that believes in dominionism is the New Apostolic Reformation.

With dominionism, “the church has a responsibility to Christianize the world before Christ’s coming.”2 This is accomplished through spiritual mapping, prayer walking, and other spiritual warfare practices. This anthropocentric emphasis on man finds no basis in Scripture where the growth effort of the kingdom is theocentric or God-centered.

The plain, normal reading of OT passages like Dan. 2:44 (“God of heaven will set up a kingdom”) and Isa. 9:7 (“the zeal of the Lord will perform this”) would be that it is God who will bring about His kingdom. If it were up to man, it would certainly fail. Thank the Lord, it is not up to us!
